What this is
lamp.stream is a private, invitation-only Matrix homeserver. Matrix is an open protocol for real-time communication. Think group chat, DMs, and voice/video calls, except the server belongs to us, not to an advertising company. End-to-end encryption is on for private rooms, message history stays on hardware we run, and there is no algorithm deciding what you see.
This server does not federate. It's an island, on purpose: everyone here was invited by someone here.
Joining
- Get a registration token. Registration is invite-only: ask @ tominal (most likely the person who sent you here) for a token. You cannot complete registration without one.
- Open Element and create your account. The
join link opens Element's sign-up
in a new tab. It will say
matrix.org: click Edit, typelamp.stream, and continue. Enter your registration token when asked. - You'll land in the Rules room. Read the rules, react ✅ to the pinned message, and the house bot lets you into General. Everything else unlocks from there.
lamp.stream,
not matrix.org. Element always starts on
matrix.org, including from our join link and in the
desktop/mobile apps:
you MUST click "Edit" next to the homeserver and change it to
lamp.stream, or you will create an account on the wrong server
entirely, one where your registration token means nothing and none of us
can find you.
What's inside
Rooms for whatever we're into that month. Voice and video via Element Call. A daily word game, media library browsing, and other small toys living in room widgets, all gated to verified members of this server. If it sounds cozy, that's the point.
The name
Every good conversation happens in the little pool of light around a lamp. This is that lamp, streamed.
